Scherer worked for several years at Industrial Nut Co., Union Chain, and later at Apex Co. He retired after many years as a self employed mechanic.1 He died on 28 December 2008 at Providence Care Center, Sandusky, Erie, Ohio, at age 99.1 He was buried on 30 December 2008 at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky, Erie, Ohio.1
