Obituary of Walter A Krupp, Port Clinton News Herald, Ohio, Dec 30, 1980 Taken from the Port Clinton News Herald: Walter A. Krupp, 74, of 336 Wilson Ave., associated with Port Clinton newspapers for more than 50 years, died early this morning. He was stricken at his home and taken to H. B. Magruder, where he was pronounced dead, on 12/30/1980. Krupp, who was with his father, William, purchased the former Port Clinton Herald, a weekly, in 1927, served as editor of that paper until its merger with the Daily News in 1969. He continued associate editor of the Port Clinton News Herald until it became a part of the Gannett newspaper group in 1975. He continued his association with the paper through his weekly "Izzy Sez" column and feature stories until his death. Krupp began his "Izzy Sez" column, often featuring his friend, Archie the Cockroach. On March 29, 1928, and in 1974 noted he had written more than 3,000 columns. For the past several years, he had spent a portion of his winters in Arizona, but would write his columns in advance so they could continue to appear weekly while he was away from his desk in the News Herald Newsroom. This year was no exception, and he already had completed several of his columns prior to his death. He even spent a short time in the newsroom on Monday to finish one of his columns. Walter Krupp was born February 11, 1906, in Fremont, Ohio, the son of William and Elsie (Deer) Krupp. He graduated from Fremont St Joseph High School in 1924. He married the former Mary Gabel of Fremont, October 24, 1929. She survives. Other survivors include a son David, of California; two daughters, Betsy Fagan of Michigan and Jane Krupp of Columbus; six grandchildren; two brothers, Richard of Fort Myers, Florida, and Kenneth of Port Clinton; three sisters, Gen VanNess of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Elsie Hoffman and Arlene Bohling, both of Port clinton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday in Immaculate Conception Church, Fourth and Madison Streets, Port Clinton. Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 0 PM at the Gerner-Wolf Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton. The Rev. James Risacher will officiate the service, and burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
